From selling her home without ever visiting the country to navigating a new language, culture, and way of life, her story is filled with bold decisions and honest reflections.

We also dive into the beauty of travel, the unexpected challenges of starting over, and how embracing change can lead to incredible new opportunities. We connect and relate to one another when we share our stories.

00:00:08.720 --> 00:00:12.320
My name is Amelia Old, and I am your host of Voices of Inspiration.

00:00:12.480 --> 00:00:17.359
Join me as I share stories of friends, family, and strangers through my everyday life and travels.

00:00:17.519 --> 00:00:25.600
You will laugh, possibly cry, but walk away feeling connected more than ever to those around you and ready to be the change our world needs.

00:00:25.839 --> 00:00:27.519
Everyone has a story to tell.

00:00:27.679 --> 00:00:28.800
What's yours?

00:00:30.079 --> 00:00:31.280
Hello, my friends.

00:00:31.440 --> 00:00:32.880
Thank you for joining me today.

00:00:33.039 --> 00:00:35.200
I am so excited about this episode.

00:00:35.359 --> 00:00:37.520
It's probably one of my favorites thus far.

00:00:37.679 --> 00:00:42.240
I chat with my friend Patty Davis, who I met a few years ago during a press trip to St.

00:00:42.399 --> 00:00:43.920
Simon's Island in Georgia.

00:00:44.159 --> 00:00:49.759
Patty recently made the move to Portugal with her husband after having never spent a significant amount of time there.

00:00:49.920 --> 00:00:52.960
So we talk about her move and the challenges that have come along with that.

00:00:53.119 --> 00:00:57.439
And we also talk about the entertainment industry and travel, traveling to filming locations.

00:00:57.520 --> 00:01:03.520
And Patty turns the tables and interviews me, and we talk about what led to me purchasing a farm during the pandemic.

00:01:03.679 --> 00:01:06.239
This is one episode you will not want to miss.

00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:07.120
You ready?

00:01:07.599 --> 00:01:08.959
I am but it is.

00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:14.640
So we met like we just talked, we're talking about this like five, six, seven years ago in St.

00:01:14.879 --> 00:01:19.920
Simon's, which has become one of my favorite places now.

00:01:20.079 --> 00:01:27.519
Like I've now taken my family there a few times and I've even started looking at real estate there because I love it.

00:01:27.680 --> 00:01:28.560
I love it.

00:01:28.719 --> 00:01:35.599
That was one of those press trips where you know how you all you go on press trips and fine, you're there to tell a story.

00:01:35.680 --> 00:01:39.200
But that was one of those places I'm like, okay, I think I can come and live here.

00:01:39.599 --> 00:01:40.319
Absolutely.

00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:41.519
It was such a good time.

00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:42.959
We had so much fun together.

00:01:43.200 --> 00:01:45.200
Now, had you been there a couple of times?

00:01:45.439 --> 00:01:46.000
I had been there.

00:01:46.319 --> 00:01:48.000
I want to say maybe I'd been there once before.

00:01:48.079 --> 00:01:49.599
I think I'd been to the that's so nice.

00:01:49.760 --> 00:01:50.319
Yeah, I love it.

00:01:50.879 --> 00:01:52.480
And my family loves it now too.

00:01:52.640 --> 00:01:56.159
Um, but you just made a big move in your life.

00:01:56.480 --> 00:01:57.120
I did.

00:01:57.439 --> 00:01:59.439
My husband and I moved to Portugal.

00:01:59.680 --> 00:02:01.760
So how did that happen?

00:02:02.079 --> 00:02:07.680
Well, we had been planning a trip to Lisbon because everyone said, Oh, you've got to go and see Portugal, you're gonna love it.

00:02:07.840 --> 00:02:09.280
And it wasn't really on our radar.

00:02:09.439 --> 00:02:13.360
There's always other places to go, Paris or Amsterdam.

00:02:13.439 --> 00:02:15.919
And um, then the real estate market was really good.

00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:18.080
And we people kept asking, Are you gonna sell your house?

00:02:18.159 --> 00:02:18.960
Are you gonna sell your house?

00:02:19.039 --> 00:02:20.879
I'm like, well, where would we go?

00:02:21.039 --> 00:02:25.120
And that went from where would we go to where could we go?

00:02:25.439 --> 00:02:27.840
So we really had nothing else holding us.

00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:33.360
Our our dogs we had had for 15 years had passed in the last couple of years.

00:02:33.520 --> 00:02:34.800
We have no children.

00:02:35.120 --> 00:02:36.159
We said, you know what?

00:02:36.240 --> 00:02:36.960
The time is right.

00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:42.080
We tried to sell the house in 2017, 2018, not a bite.

00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:45.759
Nobody wanted to put a bid on it, nobody came but look at it barely.

00:02:46.080 --> 00:02:47.840
Same house, it's nothing different.

00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:54.879
This time we put the house on the market for a bigger price tag, and it was it sold in three days.

00:02:55.199 --> 00:02:55.680
Wow.

00:02:55.919 --> 00:02:58.560
And you're like and you were in Atlanta, right?

00:02:58.800 --> 00:03:00.000
We were we're in Atlanta.

00:03:00.080 --> 00:03:02.319
That was our home, that was my home for 30 years.

00:03:02.560 --> 00:03:06.479
And um, we had net at this point, we had never even been to Portugal.

00:03:06.719 --> 00:03:10.479
It was just like a thought in your mind, like this might be a nice place to go.

00:03:11.360 --> 00:03:12.000
Fun little dream.

00:03:12.080 --> 00:03:15.520
We had done a little research, we'd done some research on it and we sold the house.

00:03:15.599 --> 00:03:17.759
We closed on April 27th.

00:03:17.919 --> 00:03:23.439
By May 10th, we were in Portugal looking around and seeing what would work for us.

00:03:23.520 --> 00:03:27.039
And we're like, hopefully, we're gonna love it because we just sold our house.

00:03:27.439 --> 00:03:31.120
Was there ever a fear like we're we're not gonna love it?

00:03:31.439 --> 00:03:32.159
Heck yeah.

00:03:32.400 --> 00:03:33.039
Heck yeah.

00:03:33.199 --> 00:03:34.319
I mean, we didn't know.

00:03:34.400 --> 00:03:44.240
We had no concept of what it was like here, and even with um the language is so this is a funny word to use for it, but it's so foreign.

00:03:44.319 --> 00:04:04.479
Like, you know, you know everyone takes a little bit of Spanish in high school, you know Italian because you eat in Italian restaurants, you know, a little bit of French because you know, fashion and and right things the media that you're so used to, you know, in putting into your um Wixicot every day, but nobody speaks Portuguese, you know, that's not something that's you hear all the time.

00:04:04.639 --> 00:04:04.879
Yeah.

00:04:05.039 --> 00:04:14.240
So it was really it's it's a difficult language to learn, but we we learned the basics, we learned how to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, thank you.

00:04:14.479 --> 00:04:15.280
Off we went.

00:04:15.520 --> 00:04:17.279
So we came here May 10th.

00:04:17.439 --> 00:04:19.759
We loved it and we traveled around a little bit.

00:04:19.920 --> 00:04:25.120
There's we went to Lisbon First, which is gorgeous, but really big, a little too big for us.

00:04:25.279 --> 00:04:28.639
And we went out to Malidish, which is out on the coast.

00:04:28.800 --> 00:04:29.839
Christian Lacroix?

00:04:30.319 --> 00:04:34.000
No, Christian Louettan is building a hotel out there.

00:04:34.240 --> 00:04:38.160
Oh George Clooney is rumored to be bringing building a hotel out there too.

00:04:38.480 --> 00:04:40.720
Oh, well, I guess I need to visit.

00:04:41.519 --> 00:04:43.600
Nice, but remote, really, really remote.

00:04:43.759 --> 00:04:46.079
So I'm like, okay, this is a little too far away.

00:04:46.240 --> 00:04:54.240
So we came back in and went to Stubel, which is kind of like just like a almost a suburb of Lisbon.

00:04:54.720 --> 00:05:00.800
It's about 30 minutes or 40 minutes on the train, and it's a little seaside town.

00:05:00.959 --> 00:05:02.800
And this is where we decided to be.

00:05:02.959 --> 00:05:04.879
It's just lovely, it's quaint.

00:05:05.040 --> 00:05:08.160
Um, we do live across the street from a couple of nightclubs.

00:05:08.240 --> 00:05:13.680
So at night it gets a little loud when it's lively when we need for it to be lively and it's calm when we need for it to be calm.

00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:20.079
Fun fact when I did um my so I'm super, super into genealogy and ancestry and stuff.

00:05:20.160 --> 00:05:21.519
And so I've done a couple DNA tests.

00:05:21.600 --> 00:05:28.399
And when I got one of them back, um I ended up, you know, having Portuguese ancestors and I had no idea about that.

00:05:28.480 --> 00:05:32.399
And so that's something that I've been working on and doing some research on lately.

00:05:32.480 --> 00:05:42.800
So I thought that that was interesting when when we moved there, and I was like, I'm just finding this piece out about my background and uh yeah, yeah, visit me.

00:05:43.040 --> 00:05:44.319
Yeah, exactly.

00:05:44.480 --> 00:05:53.759
Yeah, if I can, if I can um, you know, really break it down on who my ancestors were, you know, from that area, that would be really cool.

00:05:53.920 --> 00:05:55.680
That's one of those I'm just starting to crack.

00:05:55.759 --> 00:05:57.279
So it might take some time.

00:05:58.480 --> 00:05:59.519
Nothing but time.

00:05:59.839 --> 00:06:09.439
So was there a specific reason why Portugal over somewhere else out of everywhere in the world?

00:06:09.680 --> 00:06:14.319
Yeah, of course, you know, we wanted to be someplace that was a little more familiar to us.

00:06:14.399 --> 00:06:30.800
We've been to Spain, we love Barcelona, but the the requirements for getting there and for I mean, for putting money in the bank account and for um just jumping through hoops red tape-wise, Portugal seemed to be the easiest one of all.

00:06:31.120 --> 00:06:35.360
There's there's very little time needed to become a citizen when we decided to do that.

00:06:35.519 --> 00:06:41.600
We can have a dual citizenship, don't have to give up our United States citizenship, and that only takes about five years.

00:06:41.920 --> 00:06:49.040
In Spain, it would take 10 years, and they wanted you to have lots of health checkups and stuff you needed to show before you entered the country.

00:06:49.199 --> 00:06:56.160
Not that that's a big deal, but still it was it was a longer time to become a citizen in Spain than Portugal.

00:06:56.560 --> 00:06:59.439
The Portuguese people are really excited to have people here.

00:06:59.680 --> 00:07:04.959
It you know, I think maybe 10 years ago, it was not the place it is now.

00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:07.439
Like it's a everybody wants to be here.

00:07:07.600 --> 00:07:11.600
So we're reading more and more about people coming here and a lot of people from the UK.

00:07:11.680 --> 00:07:18.560
We met so many people from Germany and the Netherlands and the you know, the United Kingdom that just are all moving to Portugal.

00:07:18.720 --> 00:07:21.040
It's just a better quality of life, it's super safe.

00:07:21.120 --> 00:07:23.680
You can walk around in the middle of the night, nobody's gonna bother you.

00:07:23.839 --> 00:07:31.759
And still, you know, I think in Atlanta, we lived in a neighborhood that was being gentrified, gorgeous old historic neighborhood.

00:07:31.920 --> 00:07:35.120
But hearing gunshots wasn't unusual.

00:07:35.279 --> 00:07:37.279
It wasn't even surprising after a while.

00:07:37.439 --> 00:07:47.680
And here, when you hear anything like that, you just kind of you realize, okay, we might have a little bit of PTSD from from living in the States and especially the political climate.

00:07:47.920 --> 00:07:51.519
Don't want to get into politics, but it's I just feel a lot safer here.

00:07:51.920 --> 00:07:53.120
I can understand that.

00:07:53.279 --> 00:07:59.439
And I I spent quite a few years in Atlanta, and so I definitely know what you mean.

00:07:59.519 --> 00:08:06.639
I I remember when I first moved to Atlanta, like I don't know, maybe 2001, 2002.

00:08:06.800 --> 00:08:09.600
You know, there were millions of people there then.

00:08:10.000 --> 00:08:15.759
And now 20 years on, it's it's I I went there recently over the summer.

00:08:15.839 --> 00:08:19.439
I went there actually, um, and spent just a weekend there.

00:08:19.519 --> 00:08:21.120
And I was in the midtown area.

00:08:21.199 --> 00:08:25.920
And my kids were like, oh, you know, mom, didn't you have a place here, an apartment here?

00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:27.279
And I was like, Yeah, and they were like, Where?

00:08:27.439 --> 00:08:34.399
I said, honestly, I could not even tell you where it was compared to what things look like now.

00:08:34.639 --> 00:08:36.159
I was so lost.

00:08:36.559 --> 00:08:43.600
Yeah, I'm sure that even going back, even going back when we were gone for the summer and came back in August, it was it was changed.

00:08:43.679 --> 00:08:44.879
It was just a few months.

00:08:45.039 --> 00:08:46.000
I love Atlanta.

00:08:46.159 --> 00:08:51.279
I mean, all of our closest friends were there, except where we have our very closest in Florida as well.

00:08:51.519 --> 00:08:53.679
But it was just time for us to make a change.

00:08:53.840 --> 00:08:54.080
Yeah.

00:08:54.240 --> 00:08:56.159
So also we're so close to everything.

00:08:56.320 --> 00:09:05.840
We always wanted to explore Europe, and we're only just a quick little two-hour plane ride to Paris or to the Netherlands, which we got a chance to do this summer, which was really fun.

00:09:06.080 --> 00:09:07.440
That's so nice and convenient.

00:09:07.519 --> 00:09:08.720
My in-laws live in England.

00:09:08.799 --> 00:09:11.519
Uh, my husband's from England, and so all of our in-laws are there.

00:09:11.759 --> 00:09:17.679
And I, you know, I always envy them because it is so easy for them to travel to other places, you know.

00:09:17.840 --> 00:09:26.639
It's whereas we're kind of limited, you know, domestically, and they're like, oh, we're gonna go to Greece or we're going to Spain or, you know.

00:09:27.279 --> 00:09:28.960
Um is so close.

00:09:29.039 --> 00:09:29.840
Everything's so close.

00:09:30.000 --> 00:09:31.679
Yeah, yeah, that's definitely a benefit.

00:09:31.840 --> 00:09:39.120
What um were some of the challenges in that as an expat and making this change from moving from the States to Portugal?

00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:43.519
Um, coming as an immigrant, I like to use the word immigrant.

00:09:43.679 --> 00:09:55.919
I think expat has got a real sense of privilege that that worry has got a sense of privilege to it that has a lot of historical, um, so what I'm looking for, just not good intonations to it.

00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:59.840
We're just as much an immigrant as anybody coming over from Europe to the United States.

00:10:00.080 --> 00:10:03.039
So, but the language is really, really tough.

00:10:03.200 --> 00:10:05.919
The only way I can print describe it is it sounds mushy.

00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:11.279
Like every, like all the S's are everything there's like there's a lot of guttural sounds, yeah.

00:10:11.679 --> 00:10:14.320
Just not something you're used to hearing.

00:10:14.480 --> 00:10:19.840
Um, like in our our apartment, we don't have we have a washer, but no dryer.

00:10:20.639 --> 00:10:28.559
Usually it's sunny, so you can like everyone has like these langer things you put on the patio and you can dry everything, but it's been raining like crazy.

00:10:28.720 --> 00:10:32.480
We read somewhere it's it only rains 10 days a year in Portugal.

00:10:32.639 --> 00:10:36.000
No, no, it's been raining a lot in Portugal.

00:10:36.080 --> 00:10:38.159
It rains almost every day since we've been here.

00:10:38.240 --> 00:10:39.919
We've been here a month today.

00:10:40.080 --> 00:10:47.200
We you know, we sold our car in in the States before we left, so not having a car is weird.

00:10:47.440 --> 00:10:49.679
But there's we can walk to everything.

00:10:49.840 --> 00:10:57.200
We can walk to all the grocery stores, we can walk to all the restaurants and cafes, um, hop on a train in 30 minutes to New York and Lisbon.

00:10:57.360 --> 00:11:05.759
There's tons of Uber and bolts, and it's super inexpensive to take a take an Uber here, like I don't know, seven bucks to get across the city.

00:11:05.919 --> 00:11:09.519
So as opposed to the same trip in Atlanta would have been$25.

00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:10.399
Right.

00:11:10.639 --> 00:11:17.759
What are some of the things that you would recommend if someone was um considering making a similar change?

00:11:17.919 --> 00:11:32.399
What are some of the things that um you would suggest doing even before even before a move, like the beginning, you know, the the thought process and maybe some of the things that um people need to get together before they want to make a move like this?

00:11:32.720 --> 00:11:33.360
Absolutely.

00:11:33.600 --> 00:11:38.240
I did a lot of research and on Facebook, there's a couple of groups on there.

00:11:38.480 --> 00:11:43.840
There's one called something like American Friends in PT.

00:11:44.480 --> 00:11:49.120
And that that Facebook page was integral to everything we did.

00:11:49.279 --> 00:11:54.879
They gave us a list of every single thing we needed to do for our um visa application.

00:11:55.120 --> 00:11:56.559
It was a piece of cake.

00:11:56.639 --> 00:11:58.399
Without them, I don't know how we would have done it.

00:11:58.559 --> 00:12:03.120
A lot of people hire a lot of um companies that do that type of thing.

00:12:03.279 --> 00:12:08.159
We were able to do this without that, without that help and that that extra expense.

00:12:08.879 --> 00:12:28.000
Um, so and absolutely, I would say look at your websites and on um anywhere on the internet, watch the YouTube videos, get on Facebook and look those those um groups up because they're gonna be able to tell you and answer so many questions that you're gonna have because there's so many, there's so many questions we had.

00:12:28.159 --> 00:12:36.080
We also have a, I don't know what we we consider her, we call her our fixer, or she's our person here in Stubel, and she has set up everything for us.

00:12:36.159 --> 00:12:48.639
She set up our electric, our water, she's doing our social security cards here, our residency cards, everything we need that we can't do because a lot of people don't speak English.

00:12:49.039 --> 00:12:52.399
Like a lot of the people in these in these offices don't speak English.

00:12:52.639 --> 00:12:56.559
So you're just kind of at a at an absolute disadvantage.

00:12:56.799 --> 00:13:05.200
Also, the one thing we learned was don't get rid of your American telephone number until you're totally integrated.

00:13:05.440 --> 00:13:07.600
We gave it up and we did it too soon.

00:13:07.679 --> 00:13:10.960
And there were times when we needed to and said, we're gonna text your number.

00:13:11.039 --> 00:13:13.600
I'm like, I don't have that number anymore.

00:13:13.840 --> 00:13:16.960
Oh so and it made a lot of things really difficult.

00:13:17.200 --> 00:13:21.759
Banking, when there was like a snappy with the banking, I they couldn't reach me.

00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:29.840
We were able to get things done, but keep your keep your um American telephone number until you've been here for a while.

00:13:30.480 --> 00:13:37.679
And just, you know, if you can can get here and do some research before you move, that's better.

00:13:37.840 --> 00:13:47.200
We're gonna be here, you know, for you know, long term, but I don't know if we're gonna be in Stuba long term, but we're gonna get a chance to see the rest of the country and see where we want to settle down.

00:13:47.519 --> 00:14:03.120
Um, it's inexpensive to live here, but if you can find someone who's a a fixer or a helper when you get to the the city that you want to be in for you know at least a short term, do that because they're gonna be everything to you.

00:14:03.200 --> 00:14:05.120
They're gonna be set up your entire life.

00:14:05.360 --> 00:14:06.080
That's bigger.

00:14:06.879 --> 00:14:09.840
That's good that there are those services available now, you know.

00:14:10.000 --> 00:14:10.159
Yeah.

00:14:10.320 --> 00:14:17.039
And also I think with anything, really, we're so lucky that we do have YouTube and Facebook groups.

00:14:17.120 --> 00:14:36.960
And I think I use Facebook groups more than other um form of resources these days from everything, anything from anything from rock hounding to local garage sales, you know, archaeology, what you know, everything everybody.

00:14:37.519 --> 00:14:41.039
So, what are some of your favorite things to do in the area that you've gotten a chance?

00:14:41.120 --> 00:14:47.120
I know that on Sunday, I think it was Sunday, that you had the opportunity to go to the market in Lisbon.

00:14:47.200 --> 00:14:49.919
What are some some of the other things that you can do?

00:14:50.799 --> 00:14:51.679
Lisbon is so fun.

00:14:51.759 --> 00:14:53.279
And you just jump on the train and go.

00:14:53.360 --> 00:15:01.279
And uh, we went to a place called the LX Factory, and they have a market there during, I think it's every Sunday, just Sundays.

00:15:01.519 --> 00:15:06.799
But the the whole factory is just a whole bunch of different shops and restaurants and bars.

00:15:07.039 --> 00:15:08.080
Super, super fun.

00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:12.159
I think that the markets and the the places to shop are really cool.

00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:16.799
Here in Stubel, we have one of the most gorgeous fresh markets.

00:15:16.960 --> 00:15:38.720
Like you walk in and there's all the fresh fish laying out, and it's kind of it's it's almost a little bit of a shock because you're not used to seeing that in a grocery store at Kroger at Publix and the tons of fresh vegetables and nuts and dried fruit and anything you can possibly imagine, except for, of course, you know, your cleaning supplies, which you have to go to a regular grocery store for.

00:15:39.039 --> 00:15:49.919
So yeah, I think the that um the markets are really just kind of the number one thing that every almost every corner there's a bakery, which is dangerous, but fabulous.

00:15:50.399 --> 00:15:50.960
That's nice.

00:15:51.120 --> 00:15:54.080
That's one thing that my husband complains about here in the States.

00:15:54.320 --> 00:16:00.960
He says you can't find good bread or anything like you can, you know, in other countries.

00:16:01.279 --> 00:16:07.600
Yeah, and honestly, if you like fish and you like seafood, we're that's that's what they're all about here.

00:16:07.759 --> 00:16:13.759
There's a restaurant in Lisbon called Ramiro that is just incredible.

00:16:14.000 --> 00:16:19.679
Um you can go and and everything is also super inexpensive compared to the states.

00:16:20.080 --> 00:16:27.120
You know, we were in here in in Europe from May 10th until like almost the very beginning of August.

00:16:27.279 --> 00:16:32.399
And we then we came home to the States to kind of get our visa set up and get ready to go.

00:16:32.559 --> 00:16:38.320
We were there from August until um mid to late October.

00:16:38.480 --> 00:16:48.000
And it was just like, oh my gosh, the sticker shock of what everything costs in the States was extreme compared to being here in Europe and especially here in Portugal.

00:16:48.320 --> 00:16:55.840
Yeah, I mean it is, especially when it comes to fresh products, uh, you know, vegetables and things like that.

00:16:56.240 --> 00:17:04.880
Here in and here in um Portugal, I think all over Europe, they don't allow the same types of additives to the food that they do in the United States.

00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:09.759
They're just really, really strict about what goes into the food, even the prepared food.

00:17:10.160 --> 00:17:13.519
So which I think it's a healthier way of living all the way around.

00:17:14.240 --> 00:17:16.160
Now you've traveled the world.

00:17:16.240 --> 00:17:20.400
I mean, you've been to, I think, like over 14 countries, is it?

00:17:21.039 --> 00:17:22.640
We've been to a bunch of places, yeah.

00:17:22.880 --> 00:17:30.640
What has been, other than you know, now you're in Portugal in a new place, what has been one of your favorite destinations, favorite adventures?

00:17:31.519 --> 00:17:34.880
Buenos Aires, Argentina.

00:17:35.599 --> 00:17:38.720
The people there just stole my heart.

00:17:38.799 --> 00:17:41.599
It's beautiful there, the food is amazing.

00:17:41.759 --> 00:17:43.200
I just loved everything about it.

00:17:43.359 --> 00:17:48.400
And after we got here, we're like, why didn't why didn't we look at Buenos Aires?

00:17:49.519 --> 00:17:51.519
But um, I think we wanted something that was gonna be clear.

00:17:51.680 --> 00:17:54.000
We always wanted to tour Europe and see everything in Europe.

00:17:54.079 --> 00:17:59.119
So this had everything we wanted to see in one place, so we chose Europe.

00:18:00.000 --> 00:18:10.720
Another thing that you and I have in common beyond travel is the TV film industry, which is not something that I don't think either one of us really clicked on when we met the first time.

00:18:10.799 --> 00:18:18.400
Like we didn't spend a lot of time talking about it in that moment, but you co-founded Atlanta Movie Tours in 2012.

00:18:18.640 --> 00:18:19.599
Can you talk about that?

00:18:19.680 --> 00:18:20.559
How did it come about?

00:18:20.720 --> 00:18:21.839
What did you guys offer?

00:18:22.000 --> 00:18:23.599
I think this is a really cool thing.

00:18:23.839 --> 00:18:30.559
And um, you know, uh a lot of people that might be listening might have actually gone one of your tours.

00:18:30.880 --> 00:18:31.519
I would hope so.

00:18:31.680 --> 00:18:32.720
It was lots and lots of fun.

00:18:32.799 --> 00:18:45.519
In 2012, uh, friends had introduced Carrie Sagloburns and I, and we got together and just um there was a restaurant opening because as you and I both were doing at the same time, doing lots of press for lifestyle things.

00:18:45.680 --> 00:18:49.039
I'm sure you went to a lot of restaurants you wrote about in your blog as well.

00:18:49.279 --> 00:18:52.079
I had my blog, it was called Anatomy of Dinner Party.

00:18:52.480 --> 00:18:56.000
And I was invited to an Indian restaurant, and Eric didn't want to go.

00:18:56.079 --> 00:18:57.759
So I said he goes, Why don't you ask Carrie?

00:18:57.839 --> 00:19:00.240
Because we, you know, we're just acquaintances.

00:19:00.480 --> 00:19:02.000
And I said, sure, that sounds fun.

00:19:02.160 --> 00:19:04.000
And she said, Yeah, she'd love to go.

00:19:04.160 --> 00:19:09.359
And we started having a couple of cocktails and talking about the walking dead and how we both loved it so much.

00:19:09.599 --> 00:19:18.400
And she said, you know, when people come into town, I take them on you know, location tours, not for you know, just for fun.

00:19:18.559 --> 00:19:22.559
And I said, Oh, that would make the most amazing business.

00:19:22.960 --> 00:19:33.200
So we started talking about it, and the next day we incorporated, and that was in January of 2012, and March 31st, we had our inaugural tour.

00:19:33.519 --> 00:19:34.000
Wow.

00:19:34.640 --> 00:19:38.960
And yeah, we were just just on a path.

00:19:39.119 --> 00:19:45.039
We were just kind of, you know, couldn't wait to get it up and running, and all of our guides were all had been somehow on the show.

00:19:45.119 --> 00:19:49.599
They'd either been zombies on the show or they had been on there somehow as an extra.

00:19:49.680 --> 00:19:57.359
So they had all the behind-the-scenes stories, and we welcomed thousands and thousands of people over it.

00:19:57.599 --> 00:19:59.519
Kiri and her sister started running it after a while.

00:19:59.599 --> 00:20:02.880
I stepped away after four years to do some other things.

00:20:03.119 --> 00:20:07.599
And in 2020, during the pandemic, then it closed.

00:20:07.839 --> 00:20:12.640
And of course, just Sunday night was the last, was the finale for Walking Dead.

00:20:12.720 --> 00:20:14.400
We had so many more other tours.

00:20:14.480 --> 00:20:18.559
We had Marvel tours and Gone with the Wind with Margaret Mitchell.

00:20:18.720 --> 00:20:22.160
Um, I'm trying to think of some of the other ones, just a regular movie tour.

00:20:22.240 --> 00:20:23.359
It was it was so much fun.

00:20:23.519 --> 00:20:26.559
It was one of the the highlights of my life.

00:20:26.720 --> 00:20:35.039
I mean, in Atlanta now is is certainly in in competition with Wilmington to be the Hollywood of the East, if you will.

00:20:35.279 --> 00:20:46.319
And um, you know, it's really cool to see how that's kind of progressed because I moved to Atlanta originally as being part of the entertainment industry and I was an agent and things.

00:20:46.480 --> 00:20:49.279
And I was actually yes, I was an agent.

00:20:49.440 --> 00:20:49.839
Yeah.

00:20:50.079 --> 00:21:07.039
I was yeah, I started out as an agent when I was 20 years old and I worked for an agency that it's no longer open now, but they focus mostly on models, but they had actors and uh voiceover actors and things like that.

00:21:07.119 --> 00:21:19.839
And it's really interesting to see a lot of the actors that you you and other people might be familiar with now in the Atlanta market were just starting out back, you know, 20 plus years ago.

00:21:20.079 --> 00:21:23.839
And it was really cool to be a part of just watching their growth along the way.

00:21:24.000 --> 00:21:30.720
I worked for a couple of agencies, I owned an agency and I closed it about 12 years ago.

00:21:31.039 --> 00:21:33.519
And yeah, and I can't get out of the industry.

00:21:33.680 --> 00:21:34.559
I still work in it.

00:21:34.640 --> 00:21:40.640
I'm working on the production side now, and that is one of my greatest passions.

00:21:40.799 --> 00:21:42.400
I'm it gets in your blood.

00:21:42.559 --> 00:21:45.759
I came here was Catapult Acting Studios.

00:21:45.920 --> 00:21:51.279
I was their studio manager, so got to work with still so many fantastic actors, so much fun.

00:21:51.519 --> 00:21:52.480
It does get in your blood.

00:21:52.640 --> 00:21:59.519
I tell people all of the time it's one of those industries that once you get in, you will be.

00:22:00.079 --> 00:22:01.759
Brought back if you try to go away.

00:22:02.559 --> 00:22:09.519
I feel like I'm constantly pulled back to the other side, no matter how many times I'm like, okay, I'm done with it.

00:22:09.839 --> 00:22:10.160
No.

00:22:11.279 --> 00:22:11.599
No.

00:22:12.240 --> 00:22:13.359
So I've accepted it now.

00:22:13.519 --> 00:22:24.960
But I also think like what you and I do and what we have done with content creation and writing and things like that, you know, it all is part of what I like to call the little circle of entertainment.

00:22:25.039 --> 00:22:26.559
It all fits together.

00:22:26.799 --> 00:22:29.200
Um, it's it's all part of each other.

00:22:29.359 --> 00:22:33.519
So I think we're we're both forever going to be in the business.

00:22:33.680 --> 00:22:34.000
Agreed.

00:22:34.240 --> 00:22:44.319
And going back to the tour part, I was just, I talked about this in another episode with someone of how cool it is that you can tour some of these filming locations.

00:22:44.559 --> 00:22:47.119
I mentioned that I had been in Atlanta over the summer.

00:22:47.279 --> 00:22:53.839
It was because I had given my daughter tickets to tour vampire diaries filming locations.

00:22:53.920 --> 00:22:55.920
That was her Christmas sketch from last year.

00:22:56.160 --> 00:23:05.039
She thought it was the most amazing thing, you know, to see what she's seen on all the episodes and be a part of it.

00:23:05.279 --> 00:23:11.440
And um on the other episode, we we talked about how difficult it is to get into some of them.

00:23:11.599 --> 00:23:16.160
For example, Twilight, like the Airbnb in in, I think it's Washington.

00:23:16.400 --> 00:23:17.279
Washington State.

00:23:17.599 --> 00:23:18.480
Yeah, yeah.

00:23:18.720 --> 00:23:27.200
It it is booked out for I put it this way, you don't see any dates in in any point.

00:23:28.400 --> 00:23:31.119
But we should travel to do that because it's so fun.

00:23:31.200 --> 00:23:32.319
We went to Portland.

00:23:32.480 --> 00:23:37.440
My gosh, I don't know how many years it's been, but you know, even on in Portland, what would we do?

00:23:37.519 --> 00:23:38.880
We went to the Goonies house.

00:23:38.960 --> 00:23:39.279
Yeah.

00:23:39.519 --> 00:23:41.759
So you just love it.

00:23:41.839 --> 00:23:44.720
Love, love, love seeing, you know, where things have been filmed.

00:23:44.960 --> 00:23:46.319
Yeah, yeah, it's really cool.

00:23:46.480 --> 00:23:55.839
Because and everything that you fall in love with when you've seen something on on the screen, um, you felt part of it even more when you're seeing it, you know.

00:23:57.519 --> 00:23:58.079
Have you done that?

00:23:58.160 --> 00:23:59.920
Have you done the Harry Potter tours?

00:24:00.240 --> 00:24:00.960
I have not.

00:24:01.119 --> 00:24:06.960
You know, um, I have watched the Harry Potter movies, and none of my children are Harry Potter fans.

00:24:07.039 --> 00:24:10.559
Yeah, and they their their ages are 23, 21, and 12.

00:24:10.720 --> 00:24:12.720
So, which surprised me.

00:24:12.880 --> 00:24:23.680
I thought at least one of them would be, but you know, my youngest is all about vampire diaries, Twilight, anything vampire.

00:24:23.839 --> 00:24:26.160
So I think this is really cool, and I want you to talk about it.

00:24:26.240 --> 00:24:30.160
Your dream is to host a dinner party based on the movie Big Night.

00:24:30.480 --> 00:24:30.960
Yes.

00:24:31.279 --> 00:24:32.880
Have you seen you've seen the movie, haven't you?

00:24:33.039 --> 00:24:33.599
I don't think so.

00:24:33.759 --> 00:24:36.319
It's it's to me, it's such a beautiful little sleeper movie.

00:24:36.400 --> 00:24:39.039
I think it's didn't get the press that it deserved.

00:24:39.599 --> 00:24:42.240
It's um, I'm trying to think, I don't even know how old it is.

00:24:42.400 --> 00:25:02.319
Stanley Tucci and um Mini Driver, and it's two brothers that own an Italian restaurant, and they kind of get usurped by a neighborhood um Italian restaurant owner, and they're all getting ready for this big night for um Louis Prima, who I think is a singer.

00:25:02.480 --> 00:25:06.240
He's a singer, and they just the preparation is just amazing.

00:25:06.400 --> 00:25:12.400
They've got the tables, the tables, you know, the great big long tables with the white tablecloths, and everything is just fantastic.

00:25:12.559 --> 00:25:33.920
And they make this one dish, it's called a timbale, and it's just nothing but all it's it's made in a great big bowl, and it's noodles and boiled eggs, and there's cheese, and there's sauce, and there's meatballs, and you turn the whole thing out and it slices like a it comes out like this, and you slice it like a big pie.

00:25:34.400 --> 00:25:39.200
And I haven't ever, I've never yet tried it, but this might be the year to do it.

00:25:40.000 --> 00:25:57.920
I mean, and to go back, if you have a love for hospitality, you you like to throw dinner parties, and and when you had your blog before, you you wrote a lot about dinner parties and yeah, it's my love we've got it's the one thing I was we were talking last night with some friends.

00:25:58.000 --> 00:25:59.359
We went to their house for dinner.

00:25:59.519 --> 00:26:01.200
It's the one thing that makes me feel normal.

00:26:01.359 --> 00:26:03.039
So we're like, what can we do here?

00:26:03.279 --> 00:26:05.839
And honestly, it hasn't been that hard to meet people.

00:26:06.000 --> 00:26:07.759
Everyone's been very, very welcoming.

00:26:07.920 --> 00:26:11.359
So we're throwing a small little party on Christmas Eve for a few people.

00:26:11.599 --> 00:26:16.079
Oh, how exciting! Yeah, it's just it's what I need to do to feel normal.

00:26:16.240 --> 00:26:22.799
It's yeah, it's hard to feel normal in a place where you don't speak the language, you don't, you know, it's hard to read things, it's hard to get by.

00:26:22.960 --> 00:26:25.519
We're trying as hard as we can, but it's exhausting.

00:26:25.920 --> 00:26:27.759
Every day is exhausting.

00:26:28.160 --> 00:26:28.720
Right, right.

00:26:28.960 --> 00:26:30.160
Like it's such a big adventure.

00:26:30.240 --> 00:26:33.519
I'm like, it it's a lot harder than you would think it would be.

00:26:33.680 --> 00:26:35.359
It's a challenging adventure.

00:26:35.599 --> 00:26:36.240
It certainly is.

00:26:36.400 --> 00:26:38.480
It's an exciting challenge, but it's a big challenge.

00:26:38.640 --> 00:26:39.519
What's next for you?

00:26:39.759 --> 00:26:46.400
Yeah, I mean, the other day, this past week, I was looking in my Google Drive and found this folder.

00:26:47.039 --> 00:26:48.799
I don't know where why it even popped up.

00:26:49.039 --> 00:26:50.480
It's an untitled novel.

00:26:50.720 --> 00:26:52.720
I was like, what is this?

00:26:53.039 --> 00:26:54.240
From 2015.

00:26:54.400 --> 00:26:56.480
And it had three full chapters written.

00:26:56.640 --> 00:27:00.000
It's just a little rom-com thing I'd started and just kind of abandoned.

00:27:00.160 --> 00:27:02.880
I'm like, let's pick this up and see where it goes.

00:27:03.119 --> 00:27:04.079
Now's the time.

00:27:04.160 --> 00:27:07.839
That that was meant to be to show up at the moment that it showed up.

00:27:08.079 --> 00:27:08.640
Crazy.

00:27:08.799 --> 00:27:15.680
I mean, honestly, I don't know why it would even come up because it wasn't anything that I had searched for or looked at since 2015.

00:27:15.839 --> 00:27:16.880
That's amazing.

00:27:17.119 --> 00:27:24.079
And now you're in the perfect spot to find a little, a little cafe to sit and work on your story.

00:27:24.400 --> 00:27:24.720
Yes.

00:27:24.960 --> 00:27:26.799
What an exciting adventure.

00:27:27.039 --> 00:27:28.400
It is very exciting.

00:27:28.640 --> 00:27:40.720
If anyone wants to follow your travels and follow your journey of Vietnam, Portugal, and your journey of the story that you're about to be working on, where can they find you?

00:27:40.960 --> 00:27:45.200
They can find me on Facebook, they can follow me there, and they can also follow me on Instagram.

00:27:45.359 --> 00:27:48.160
Um both handles are dinner party pee.

00:27:48.880 --> 00:28:01.119
And every Monday I write another recap of what happened the week before and our challenges and our victories and our, you know, it's not always happy, it's not always rosy.

00:28:01.200 --> 00:28:07.759
And I think that people need to see both sides because nobody wants to see someone just being rosy and happy all the time.

00:28:07.839 --> 00:28:09.279
They need to see that the real stuff.

00:28:09.359 --> 00:28:10.160
So that's true.

00:28:10.319 --> 00:28:10.720
That's true.

00:28:10.880 --> 00:28:16.799
I mean, they it people need to understand if they are going to make a big step like this, that there are going to be challenges.

00:28:16.880 --> 00:28:18.079
It's not going to be perfect.

00:28:18.160 --> 00:28:23.200
It might be um a beautiful view, but there there will be challenges along the way.

00:28:23.279 --> 00:28:30.079
It's a it's a big step, it's a big thing to do to sell everything and pick up and move to a place that you've spent very little time in.

00:28:30.640 --> 00:28:38.799
It's a lot, especially now with the the um the holidays coming up, it makes it a little harder because we're like, oh my gosh, we had so many traditions back home.

00:28:38.960 --> 00:28:39.359
Right.

00:28:39.839 --> 00:28:42.480
You feel a little just a little homesick for it.

00:28:42.640 --> 00:28:46.400
So and now's the time to create new new traditions.

00:28:46.720 --> 00:28:47.279
Exactly.

00:28:47.440 --> 00:28:47.920
Exactly.

00:28:48.160 --> 00:28:53.839
I'll make sure to link to your pages in the notes of this episode.

00:28:54.079 --> 00:29:03.839
If you had a favorite quote or any words of wisdom that you could leave behind with those that are listening, what would that be?

00:29:05.119 --> 00:29:10.640
You know what I've always just one word always live by is just believe.

00:29:11.200 --> 00:29:15.680
You know, you your words are your thoughts, your thoughts are your reality.

00:29:16.000 --> 00:29:18.720
You draw in what you give out.

00:29:19.279 --> 00:29:24.160
So make it make it count, make it happy, make it positive when you can.

00:29:24.799 --> 00:29:27.839
And even when things aren't going great, you know what?

00:29:28.000 --> 00:29:34.240
It's one day, then there's always gonna be the next day, and it's always gonna be different, it's all gonna look different the next day.

00:29:34.559 --> 00:29:35.200
So true.

00:29:35.279 --> 00:29:36.079
I love that.

00:29:36.319 --> 00:29:37.920
Thank you so much, Patty.

00:29:38.160 --> 00:29:40.480
Oh, I'm so glad that you did this with me.

00:29:40.640 --> 00:29:42.400
I think this has been wonderful.

00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:44.640
This has been one of my favorite episodes.

00:29:44.880 --> 00:29:46.400
Oh my gosh, thank you so much.

00:29:46.799 --> 00:29:50.720
Really bring the family, yeah, yeah.

00:29:51.039 --> 00:29:53.759
Or maybe not, maybe just come by myself.

00:29:54.480 --> 00:29:55.839
Maybe I'll just look.

00:29:55.920 --> 00:29:58.640
Somebody needs to stay here and take care of this farm.

00:30:00.319 --> 00:30:02.160
That was my pandemic thing.

00:30:02.319 --> 00:30:04.559
Your pandemic thing is moving to another country.

00:30:04.720 --> 00:30:08.799
Mine was buying a farm with zero farming experience.

00:30:09.119 --> 00:30:11.519
Um, yeah, I questioned that one.

00:30:12.160 --> 00:30:12.960
Talk about that a little bit.

00:30:13.039 --> 00:30:14.640
Can you tell me a little bit about that?

00:30:14.960 --> 00:30:15.359
Yeah.

00:30:15.599 --> 00:30:19.839
So in the pandemic, we had all like the beginning.

00:30:19.920 --> 00:30:24.720
I'm talking about like the summer, the that first summer, you know, two years ago.

00:30:24.960 --> 00:30:27.359
Um, we had all three kids home.

00:30:27.759 --> 00:30:31.920
And at the time it was still, you we people didn't really know what was happening.

00:30:32.000 --> 00:30:33.839
We everybody had to go home, you know.

00:30:34.160 --> 00:30:35.359
And they were driving us crazy.

00:30:35.440 --> 00:30:36.640
So we went on a little drive.

00:30:36.720 --> 00:30:39.279
And we had talked about, we had been looking at houses in St.

00:30:39.519 --> 00:30:41.200
Simon pre-COVID.

00:30:41.519 --> 00:30:48.319
And then we had talked about buying a second home in the North Carolina Mountains and had already been looking, but we went on a drive.

00:30:48.400 --> 00:30:52.960
And you know how when you just drive by properties, you're not really looking, you're like, oh, let's look at this one.

00:30:53.119 --> 00:30:55.519
Not that you're not looking to buy.

00:30:55.759 --> 00:31:01.039
And so he was like, it'd be really cool if we could find uh land in this area.

00:31:01.279 --> 00:31:03.359
Then Harlow wouldn't have to change schools.

00:31:03.440 --> 00:31:05.759
You know, the older two weren't living with us at this point in time.

00:31:05.839 --> 00:31:07.119
They're all, you know, they're older.

00:31:07.279 --> 00:31:09.839
And um, that was a Friday.

00:31:10.400 --> 00:31:17.759
On Monday, we were sent the link to this property, and Tuesday we came to see it.

00:31:18.000 --> 00:31:21.599
On Thursday, we brought the kids on Thursday night.

00:31:21.680 --> 00:31:26.880
We put an offer that was like in I don't know, like May.

00:31:27.039 --> 00:31:30.720
And then by July 4th, we moved into this property.

00:31:30.799 --> 00:31:33.759
It's a smaller house than what we were in, but more land.

00:31:33.839 --> 00:31:40.480
So we have like 13 acres, and now we have many donkeys and we have goats and we have chickens, and it has been a journey.

00:31:40.720 --> 00:31:43.440
Probably like you, you're learning things along the way.

00:31:43.519 --> 00:31:52.400
And some of the things I'm like, if I could have done this differently, maybe I wouldn't have gotten goats, or maybe I wouldn't have done this, you know, or that.

00:31:52.640 --> 00:31:57.440
I have a big garden and I grow tomatoes and okra and peppers and lettuce.

00:31:57.599 --> 00:32:00.319
Well, the lettuce I'm working on, but flowers.

00:32:00.480 --> 00:32:06.480
I'd like to be able to have like little bouquets of flowers that I could sell as a hobby.

00:32:06.720 --> 00:32:08.400
The flower thing is like fun.

00:32:08.480 --> 00:32:10.799
I would never want a big business out of it.

00:32:11.119 --> 00:32:12.559
Yeah, I totally get that.

00:32:12.720 --> 00:32:15.839
But it's always good to have a little side thing that you enjoy as well.

00:32:15.920 --> 00:32:17.039
What kind of flowers?

00:32:17.279 --> 00:32:26.000
Uh well, this year I had tulips, gonfrenas, zennias, roses, anything you can imagine was out there.

00:32:26.240 --> 00:32:30.000
Sunflowers, but I definitely learned I've had a garden for years.

00:32:30.079 --> 00:32:34.079
Even at the old house, I had a garden, but it was like obviously a smaller one.

00:32:34.240 --> 00:32:42.720
And then our first couple of years here, I it got a little bit bigger, and then this year it was even bigger, and then next year we'll be twice the size.

00:32:42.799 --> 00:32:45.680
Um, because the gardening part I can keep, I like that part.

00:32:45.839 --> 00:32:47.359
It's the animals are a lot of work.

00:32:47.440 --> 00:32:56.240
I have over 30 animals, and so if I want to go somewhere, or you know, now that travel's picking back up, when we bought this, travel wasn't happening.

00:32:56.319 --> 00:33:00.079
So I wasn't, as you know, we there was nothing going on.

00:33:00.319 --> 00:33:06.720
I couldn't even, I have I lost all motivation even to write a travel story because I'm like, I'm not going anywhere.

00:33:06.880 --> 00:33:10.079
So this is not, I don't have any content to share.

00:33:10.160 --> 00:33:11.039
I don't have anything.

00:33:11.279 --> 00:33:13.759
So I thought things were gonna be different.

00:33:13.920 --> 00:33:15.759
We were preparing for it for that.

00:33:15.920 --> 00:33:27.680
Like, if okay, well, we've got to reinvent what our life might look like, but now that it's picking back up, now I'm like, okay, I don't, you know, really need all these people that takes care of somewhere.

00:33:28.160 --> 00:33:29.599
Who takes care of the animals?

00:33:30.000 --> 00:33:32.880
Well, I do have a farm hand, but he's leaving in January.

00:33:33.039 --> 00:33:39.440
He only comes two evenings a week, really, just to help me not have just to give me a break for a couple of days.

00:33:39.519 --> 00:33:40.559
I get up at 6 a.m.

00:33:40.880 --> 00:33:43.680
I get my daughter up and get her ready for school.

00:33:43.920 --> 00:33:49.039
I then do the chores while she's getting ready because she's 12 now, so she can get herself ready, you know.

00:33:49.200 --> 00:33:49.359
Right.

00:33:49.519 --> 00:33:55.839
And I go do the farm chores and then I come in and then get ready to take her to school, and then I do the chores in the evening.

00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:58.400
On top of, I'm in college right now as well.

00:33:58.559 --> 00:34:00.640
I went back to school in the pandemic.

00:34:00.960 --> 00:34:10.079
Um, just because I didn't have those opportunities when I was younger, like the ones that we worked to give our children, I didn't have those same ones.

00:34:10.159 --> 00:34:13.760
And so I was like, maybe, you know, now's the time to get it.

00:34:14.000 --> 00:34:15.440
Do I need it?

00:34:15.760 --> 00:34:20.800
No, but it's more like your your own mind thing is to say I did it, you know.

00:34:21.280 --> 00:34:29.679
Honestly, my major is in media, and so it's not like I'm doing anything different, but it's just something to say, okay, I did that.

00:34:29.840 --> 00:34:30.559
That's great though.

00:34:30.639 --> 00:34:32.719
You certainly have a lot of things on your plate, though.

00:34:32.800 --> 00:34:34.079
That's a lot of stuff.

00:34:34.320 --> 00:34:35.360
It is, it is.

00:34:35.519 --> 00:34:41.519
I'm going to my first travel event in January that I've been to in person in like four years.

00:34:41.840 --> 00:34:45.679
Um to IMM in New York.

00:34:46.719 --> 00:34:49.440
This is my first one in person in like four years.

00:34:49.840 --> 00:34:57.519
So I'm excited just to, and I'm going this time, not as a blogger, but as a podcast host.

00:34:57.760 --> 00:35:04.480
And, you know, because really wanting to, well, nothing's gonna change about my topic.

00:35:04.559 --> 00:35:08.960
I've always been, you know, telling other people's stories and incorporating travel into that.

00:35:09.280 --> 00:35:10.559
I think it's fabulous.

00:35:10.800 --> 00:35:12.079
Well, thank you.

00:35:12.800 --> 00:35:13.599
You're fabulous.

00:35:13.679 --> 00:35:15.599
I'm so glad to be able to spend some time with you.

00:35:15.840 --> 00:35:16.800
I know, I know.

00:35:16.960 --> 00:35:18.800
Um, this is gonna be a really great episode.

00:35:18.960 --> 00:35:19.760
I'm so proud of you.

00:35:19.840 --> 00:35:20.719
You're doing so good.

00:35:20.880 --> 00:35:22.159
I appreciate you.

00:35:22.559 --> 00:35:24.159
So, so great to see you.

00:35:24.400 --> 00:35:25.119
You too.

00:35:25.280 --> 00:35:29.920
And this is how we end our little visits in Portugal now that I've just learned this.

00:35:30.159 --> 00:35:32.000
You say bizenjos.

00:35:32.719 --> 00:35:33.440
Vizenjos.

00:35:34.639 --> 00:35:35.760
It means little kisses.

00:35:35.920 --> 00:35:37.280
Oh, I love that.
